SULONG a World Mental Health Month celebration

Holy Cross College held an event at the quadrangle to celebrate World Mental Health Month. Its subject is “Moving forward toward well-being,” with its theme “Sulong.” The initiative was successful thanks to the collaboration of SSG and Utility members, instructors, and guidance counselors.

Noam Shpancer once said, “Mental health is not a destination but a journey. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.”

The Chief Guidance Counselor, Ms. Lianne Calma, claims that the focus of this program is to provide psychosocial support because, after two years of confinement due to the epidemic, it is time to resume our normal life. A thought was also given by Mr. Benjie Nolasco, the Dean of Student Affairs, wants to foster friendships between junior high school students and other students from various departments.

RAIN OR SHINE SULONG LANG

Due to heavy rain, the event was postponed from its original time, but students from Junior High School were still excited while waiting for it to start. People waited patiently with joy on their faces. The event truly captured everyone’s attention. Students who will perform used their time to practice their dance, song, and poetry.

The event was co-hosted by Sir Jerwin Recitas and Sir Arden Cabugos, and it began with the awesomeness that the attendees brought.

The first performer was Mac Court Richmond D. Caveiro from Grade 7-Ezekiel, who sang the song “Fight Song,” by Rachel Platten, which conveyed that no matter what, fighting is the greater for yourself.

Raj Joaquin Aryal, a Grade 10 student, also performed his “Corona” composition. It demonstrated the pandemic’s consequences to junior high school pupils.

With the song “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman, the Junior High School Dance Troupe also performed in the program. Jamil Anika Lulu, one of the dance troupe members, said, “My experience at the event was quite enjoyable; I made new friends there, and some of my close friends also enjoyed themselves. It continuously acts as a reminder that we are all still attractive in our own particular ways, regardless of how we appear, how many flaws we have, or what skin color we have. It stands for the notion that since these things are gifts from God, we should be proud of who we are. Our dance has some very strong movements. It has the ability to uplift viewers, make them smile, and let them realize how fortunate they are.”

In the continuation of the program, a grade 10 student, Joanna Marie Pingul also sang “A Million Dreams” by The Greatest Showman. It represented the idea that following your dreams is the best career you’ve ever had; that maintaining focus means having perseverance. No matter how far away the dreams may seem, they won’t seem that far away if you’re totally into them.

In additon, Rohmiela Gail Dayrit, a student in grade 8, sang “Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston. The greatest love of all is like a flower; it is joyfully received when you are the one giving it. The majority of participants concurred that self-love is the highest form of love. Because if you don’t have love for yourself, you can’t possibly give it to others.

A guest band made up of HCC alumni played at the other half of the event, creating a happy atmosphere for the students in attendance. The event was beautifully concluded with this.

As they all had a great time right up until the conclusion, the Crucians’ joy was felt and carried home by them. All of the students, teachers, and staffs who attended were extremely engaged throughout the entire event. The student left the school with a smile. They were all grateful that the HCC offered this program because it brought happiness and awareness to everyone. Everyone is aware that while things could initially be difficult, happiness lasts forever.
