Holy Cross College offers two teaching programs for graduates of any four-year bachelor program. These programs are Methods of Teaching and Majorship Certificate Program. The School of Arts, Sciences and Education oversees these courses.
Methods of Teaching
The intended students of the Methods of Teaching Program are primarily graduates of any four-year baccalaureate degree program who would like to (1) acquire a holistic understanding of the development and learning patterns of children/adolescents; (2) teach in junior/senior high school where a professional license is required; or merely (3) challenge the licensure examination for teachers.
The Philippine government acknowledges the vital role of teachers in nation-building and development through a responsible and literate citizenry. Towards this end, the government-supported and safeguarded quality education by proper supervision and regulation of the licensure examination and professionalization of the practice of the teaching profession (Republic Act No. 7836). However, since a number of professionals are now entering the academe, many non-education degree holders opt to take at least 18 professional education units for them to qualify for the licensure examination for teachers through the Methods of Teaching Program.
Majorship Certificate Program
The Majorship Certificate Program is for licensed professional teachers (LPTs) who would like to widen their field of specialization by enrolling 24-26 credit units, taking major courses of their chosen area of concentration.
The Holy Cross College believes that the School of Arts, Sciences and Education is in the best position to respond to the needs of professional teachers to further their concentrations since the Teacher Education programs were awarded with Government Recognitions from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Further, CHED Regional Office III allowed the offering of this certification program
