Student Life – Medical and Dental Services

MISSION

To assure that the health of the students is at optimum condition for learning. To provide health series to all employees so that effective services would be rendered to the student body.

VISION

The HCC school clinic aims to provide efficient and quality health care services to students, employees, and its adopted community.

GOALS

  • To ensure access to primary health care
  • To provide a system for dealing with crisis medical situation
  • To provide a system for identification and solution of students’ health problems
  • To provide a healthy and safe environment that facilitates learning

OBJECTIVES

  1. To provide annual medical and dental consultation and referral as necessary
  2. To monitor the health status of students and employees
  3. To provide emergency medical attention to students and employees
  4. To assess health care needs of students, such as the following
    • Screening of vision and hearing impairment
    • Screening of students in need of dental management
    • Referring students with behavioral problems to the guidance counselor for assessment
  5. To eliminate hazards to the health and safety of students and employees in coordination with other departments.

SERVICES OF THE HCC HEALTH SERVICES AND SANITATION DIVISION

  2. ANNUAL MEDICAL CHECK-UP INCLUDES:
    • Physical examination for all levels
    • Hearing and visual examination
  3. ANNUAL DENTAL CHECK-UP INCLUDES:
    • Conducting an oral examination
    • School dentist may advise or give a referral for external consultation
  4. EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID MANAGEMENT
    • Administration of the available over-the-counter drugs prescribed by the school physicians
    • Dressing of wound, immobilization, then application of splints, elastic bandage (if needed), hot and cold compress application
  5. REFERRAL
    If the patient suffers persistent symptoms, the school nurse will inform the adviser and parents or guardians immediately for referral to the nearest hospital for further evaluation and management
  6. CONFINEMENT AT CLINIC
    After assessment and evaluation, and depending on the severity of the patient’s condition, the nurse may give medication. The nurse will also advise the patient to stay at the clinic for observation for a maximum of two hours. If the symptoms are relieved, the patient shall return to the classroom.
  7. MONITORING AND INSPECTION
    • Prevention of illness and safety measures by continuous promotion of healthy lifestyle
    • Classroom visit and giving of health education materials
    • School canteen sanitation, proper coordination with the utility team leader about cleanliness, proper segregation, and disposal of garbage
