“Ano’ng maiaambag niyo kapag kayo’y criminologist na? … Hindi mo kailangan maging mayor, gobernador para makatulong … Sa mumunting paraan ninyo bilang criminologists o law enforcement agents, makakatulong kayo … Bitbitin niyo ang tatak Holy Cross College.”

That was how Holy Cross College President Atty. Dennis C. Pangan opened the online seminar of the BS in Criminology students on youth leadership. Atty. Pangan is also the dean of the School of Criminal Justice.

The school president also took the chance to announce that the school will acquire all the laboratory equipment needed by the Criminology students as preparation for the possible return of face-to-face classes among college students. He assured them that the school has enough funds to procure the necessary equipment.

As the leading higher educational institution in the eastern part of Pampanga, one of HCC’s responsibilities is to prepare the youth, who are the future leaders of the country. In line with this, the School of Criminal Law organized a webinar on October 28 to talk about honing and supporting young leaders.

The Future Law Enforcers and Defenders of Justice (FLEDJ) organized the event. The FLEDJ is a new student organization of the School of Criminal Justice. It was launched this school year.

More than 500 students from the School of Criminal Justice attended the leadership webinar, October 28.

John Paul Gozun, a former student leader and now the Sangguniang Kabataan Vice President of Mexico town, was invited to talk to the students regarding leadership.

As the 2022 national and local elections are nearing, Gozun tackled the important role of the youth in nation-building. Going back to Atty.

The youth leader also encouraged the Crucians to register to vote and vote for the candidates they think can bring good changes and developments to the community.

During the open forum, the Crucians discussed what and who they think a leader is.

Ian Joy Timbol, a Criminology said the leader she wants is ”yung leader na may napatunayan na, may nagawa na at may magagawa pa’.

Another one said: “May puso at pagmamahal sa nasasakupan at miyembro; alam na ang respeto ay inaani at hindi inuutos.”

FLEDJ president Maria Sevilla believes a leader should have ‘malinaw na plano at pangarap para sa bayan at sa kanyang nasasakupan.’

About 525 participants joined the said webinar, themed “Supporting Young Leaders: Changing Mindset from ME to We.”
