Crucians votes leaders anew

The students of Holy Cross College successfully cast their votes during the Senior High School Central Student Council (SHS-CSC) and Junior High School Supreme Student Government (JHS-SSG) Online Elections last March 7-8.

In the SHS-CSC, the Alliance of Student for Excellence and Change (ASEC) slate won the hearts of Crucians. At the same time, Jaime Timbang from the Student Alliance of Nobel Active Open-minded Learners Party will lead the JHS-SSG for the next academic year.

Crucians have the freedom to choose whose student leaders will serve them better in the next academic year. Radio Libertas aired a Candidates Forum to introduce aspiring student leaders and their platforms.

Two groups of aspiring leaders vied for the student council positions. For SHS-CSC, the Modern Learners Party was led by Vernalyn Paguinto for President and the Alliance of Student For Excellence and Change (ASEC) Party headed by Hilario Melgar.

Melgar, who will sit as the next President of the SHS Central Student Council, said their projects are focused on the school’s core values, Fides, Caritas, and Libertas. Motivational talks, donation drives, tree planting activities, and student leaders seminars are some of the banner projects of the ASEC Party. He promised to have student-centered projects for the coming academic year, bringing closer relationships in their department.

“Freedom meeting will also be implemented wherein students can freely express their thoughts and concerns to improve the school and services.  This will also serve as an opportunity for student leaders to learn more,” said Melgar.

Among the newly elected officers in the SHS Central Student Council are Aviegail Santiago for Vice-President, Red Rose Cabaylo for Secretary, Niel Justine Pring for Treasurer, Romar Mangune for Auditor, Allyza Sebastian for Public Relations Officer, and Angela Pereyra for Business Manager.

Moreover, in Junior High School, Jaimie Timbang, a grade 9 student, will lead the Supreme Student Government together with Franz Jeric Pangilinan, grade 8 student, as the Vice President.

Timbang mentioned in her radio guesting that their proposed projects are based on the needs and preferences of students in their department. She also said a program will help students have swift transitions in learning approaches in online to face-to-face classes.

“We are aiming na matulungan students sa pag-adjust  na medyo mahiyain or nag-aalinlangan pa sila sa interaction. I also want to add, cliché it may sound but we want to give voice to the youth or boost youth empowerment,” Timbang said.

Twelve more student leaders will help Timbang and Pangilinan to put their plans to action; these include Marcela Benita Emilia M. Timbol for Secretary, Lindsay V. Pineda for Treasurer, Allyson S. Samson for Auditor, Gwenn Ellison M. Caalim for Public Information Officer, and Sergeant at Arms Urica Loise C. Lalu and Ille Calvin Andrei V. Dueñas.

Each grade level also has representatives for Grade 8 Ashley Charm M. Dizon and Rihanna Ayesha L. Dizon, Grade 9 Hannah Louise D. Dizon and Rhiane Joy C. Miranda, and Grade 10 Frances Jasmine S. Turla and Stefanie C. Alfonso.

Student Council advisers Diana Pineda and Arden Cabugos reminded students that winning elections are just the start of their journey.

The newly elected council has yet to propose and finalize projects for the next academic year.
