[2ND UPDATE] — Holy Cross College is a few numbers away from meeting its target number of enrollees this academic year (2021-2022). The enrollment period was closed last August 13, after the administration extended it three times due to the influx of enrollees.
As of August 24, the Registrar’s Office has recorded 5,524 officially enrolled students from the Integrated Basic Education Department to the College Department. The school eyed 5,600 enrollees this year.
The grade school department listed 196 students; junior high school, 733; senior high school, 1668; and college department, 2927.
The number of officially enrolled students at HCC is 16.68 percent, or 790, more than the last year, when the school recorded 4,734 officially enrolled students during the first semester.
This, despite the adverse conditions of other private schools in the country. Data from the Department of Education showed at least 865 private schools stopped operations last year due to low enrollee turnout, no thanks to the ongoing pandemic. Initial data from the Department of Education showed there is a significant decrease in the number of enrollees in private schools in the country this year. From two million students last year, private schools registered only 118,000 enrollees as of August 23.
The school administrators previously acknowledged the teachers at HCC for giving quality education to the students albeit virtually, resulting in a higher number of enrollees this year. The school’s lenient enrollment rules have also helped bring in more students.
As the leading college in Sta. Ana, Pampanga, HCC has partnered with the government in providing free tertiary education to graduates. Many college students hailing from the town are grantees of the government’s Tertiary Education Subsidy Program. Under this, each student receives education financial assistance amounting to P30,000 per semester.
Apart from basic education and undergraduate studies, HCC also offers courses on Methods of Teaching and Majorship Certificate Program.
