An actor, an awardee, a proud alumnus
Allen Dizon has more than 40 local and international acting awards under his belt. He has been in the entertainment and acting industry since 1996 — that’s 25 years in the business. The actor is not only a pride of the Philippines but more so of Holy Cross College, where he finished high school in 1994.
In an interview for Usapang Millennial, Mr. Dizon recalled his days as a high school student in Holy Cross College. For four years, he lived a simple life as a Crucian, doing what any regular high school student would do. He would hang out with his friends after class, eat with them and participate in school activities. The athletic Mr. Dizon was also a member of the high school basketball team during his days in Holy Cross College. It was also in Holy Cross College when he developed a much stronger faith in God and himself.
“Masarap ‘yung buhay noong high school [sa Holy Cross College]. Hindi ko pwedeng makalimutan …’Yung mga teacher sa Holy Cross College napaka-religious … Lagi nilang sinasabi na kung may tiyaga, may nilaga. Kung magtitiyaga ka, may pupuntahan ka.”
So off he went to Manila after high school. There, he majored in Hotel and Restaurant Management. It was also in the big city where the young probinsyano Allen was discovered as a model and soon, an actor.
In 1996, Mr. Dizon signed up for his first modeling gig. It wasn’t always his dream to be in the entertainment industry. He gave it a shot, nonetheless, if only to help out his family. By this time, his father has already passed away, so he had to man up and help support his family.
The blossoming of Allen Dizon
From then on, his career blossomed. In 2006, he was cast as a supporting character in the prized film Twilight Dancers. His role in this film won him a number of acting awards, including his first — FAMAS best-supporting actor. Because of this, he made up his mind to take acting more seriously and passionately.
Now, he accepts projects not just to make money, but to tell stories that matter through acting that touches and moves. Over the years, he has starred in over 70 films — mainstream and independent, blockbuster and award-winning. He has been recognized by film award-giving bodies time and again. He has worked alongside the biggest stars in the Philippines. Our HCC alumnus has etched his name in the brightest industry in the country.
Although he is already a big name in show business, Mr. Dizon remains to be a humble, active alumnus of his Alma Mater. It has been more than two decades since his days in Holy Cross College, but he continues to come back to, visit and honor the place he once called home.
