The Holy Cross College community officially kicked off its week-long celebration of the school’s 76th Founding Anniversary, November 22.
For the second year, Holy Cross College is celebrating its Founding Anniversary virtually to observe health and safety protocols amid the pandemic. Despite the health situation, the school with a heart remains joyful as it marks its 76th year since being founded by Rev. Msgr. Fernando Capati Lansangan on November 29, 1945.
Newly elected HCC chairman Engr. Gervacio Alfredo Balatbat likened Holy Cross College to a structure. In his message, he said, “I would like to think of our institution, Holy Cross College, as a building, and our core values as our foundation: Fides, Caritas, Libertas. The closer we hold on to our values, the stronger our foundation becomes, and the longer our building lasts.”
Chairman Balatbat also mentioned notable alumni like Apu Ceto and Ma’am Elit Umali as ‘living examples of the good things HCC has been doing for the past seven decades’.
This year, Ms. Arliza Reyes, Integrated Basic Education Department principal, will be overseeing the celebration as the chair. She said in a speech, “I have always been amazed by the true happiness that the celebration of the Founding Anniversary … brings to every Crucian. There is one thing being proven here, and that is Holy Cross College is getting stronger and better as it gets older.”
This year, HCC celebrates its foundation anchored on the theme “Flying high and breaking boundaries for God and the community.”
Led by Ms. Reyes, the HCC Foundation Celebration committee organized various virtual activities for all Crucians to participate in. These activities include:
- E-games tournament (Call of Duty and Mobile Legends)
- Online presentation of artistic gymnastics
- Taekwondo poomsae
- Arnis poomsae
- Online chess
- Online singing competition
- Spoken poetry competition
- Declamation and oration contests
- Virtual showing of Pamagdulap King Krus
On November 29, the school will be holding a Thanksgiving Mass for its 76 years of existence.
Student DJs from the BS Development Communication program have been giving live updates and announcements on the Foundation activities through a special broadcast on Radio Libertas (ZenoFM and Facebook live stream), 9 AM and 4 PM daily.
