HCC Senior High School proclaims new set of Central Student Council

The Senior High School Department maintained independence and liberty in choosing student leaders in the previous SHS Central Student Council (SHS-CSC) election, March 11.

Despite the challenges in the education system brought by the COVID-19 pandemic the school with a heart believes in the capacity of the student leaders in tapping the potentials of their fellow learners.

Three (3) student parties vied for the highest student governing body in the SHS department namely Modern Learners Party, ABE Party, and Alliance of Student for Excellence and Change (ASEC) Party.

The campaign kicks-off last March 3 to introduce candidates and present their programs to the students. The candidates lay down their platforms and answer queries from students during the Meeting De Avance hosted at the Radio Libertas from March 8-9 which was followed by a presidential debate.

An online election was conducted by the SHS department to adhere to the safety and health protocols of the government. The CSC adviser Clareska Chan said all means and ways are exhausted to practice the freedom and rights of students to vote for their selected candidates. Chan said the election is important because the student council amplifies the voice of the students in the school community.

“The student organization serves as the voice of the student body wherein they can share ideas, concerns for the betterment of the community. With great power comes great responsibility, this proclamation will be the starting point to be responsible with your constituents – the students at Holy Cross College. It marks also the start of your well-planned programs for the development of everyone,” Chand said.

“Bear in mind that as a leader in this trying time you must be vigilant, truthful, alert, and transparent. You should also carry a torch of hope that will shine brightly.” Chan added.

After the half-day online election last March 11, elected student leaders were announced via live stream on the official Facebook page of Holy Cross College.

Assistant Principal Camilo Lacanlale emphasized that the role of the student council is very important in developing and engaging the youth in different programs of the school.

“To our student candidates win or lose, I hope that you will do your share in realizing the core values which is the Fides, Caritas, and Libertas. Whoever wins may the good Lord bless you and guide you in leading your fellow Senior High School students. To the winners I want you to remember the acronym TEAM, as our school treasure also said Dr. Elita Umali, Team together everyone achieves more,” Lacanlale said.

Elected student leaders are expected to guest on Radio Libertas Your Voice, Youth program on Saturday, March 13, 8:30 in the morning to give their speech and present their final projects as the new student council.
