Freshmen to be financially assisted through TES

Amid the pandemic, the school with a heart never ceased to help parents and ensure that no student will be left behind. Holy Cross College held a virtual conference with the freshmen students to discuss the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES).

The school managed to dispense the government subsidy to 931 student grantees for the second semester of the academic year 2019-2020 last month. This subsidy is under the supervision of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST).

HCC President Atty. Dennis C. Pangan said that he is looking forward to seeing students as future leaders of the community in spite of all the challenges.

“I want you to be the master of your faith, I want you to be the captain of your own soul, do not be discouraged but rather be inspired and take this as a challenge in all your studies. Someday you’ll say I survived the COVID-19pandemic, I survived the challenges of 2020-2021,” Atty. Pangan said.

The subsidy is given to students enrolled in a state university, college, or private institution where there are no public universities in the town or city. “It is a grants-in-aid program that gives additional financial assistance to Filipino students from the poorest-of-the-poor households,” CHED stated in a press release.

Under the Republic Act, 10931 or Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in August 2017 promotes free quality education for all.

To be part of the grant, the student shall submit requirements to the Registrar’s Office of the school. Freshmen need to submit their Certificate of Residency, Photocopy of Identification Card, Certificate of Indigency, and photocopy of the report card.

The school registrar, Ester Muldong also reminded students to be honest in applying for scholarships. The school encountered double scholarship from the Local Government Unit, CHED, and other educational government aid which is prohibited in the TES regulations.
Each TES grantee will receive P30,000 each semester for his/her tuition, miscellaneous fee, and other school fees. This program is intended to financially aid the education of more than a thousand students in the school.
