Indeed a million dreams for the world they’re gonna make as the College Department Class of 2022 graduation song goes. A total of 234 students from 14 different programs completed their Baccalaureate degrees last June 9-10.
After two years of waiting the school held limited in-person commencement exercises at the Holy Cross College Gymnasium. 117 students from the School of Arts, Sciences and Education, 14 students from the School of Criminal Justice, 37 students from the School of Engineering, Computing and Library Sciences, and 89 from the School of Business, Accountancy, and Hospitality celebrated their academic achievements.
The 33rd Commencement Exercises with the theme “Quality Education Towards Transformation, Hope, and Peace” was graced by Commission on Higher Education Regional Director, Dr. Leonida B. Sigua-Callagui, and Chief Education Specialist, Ms. Lora L. Yusi as the keynote speakers of the two-day graduation ceremony.
It takes a community
The regional director highlighted that it takes a whole community to help a student graduate especially during crucial times and in the time of pandemic.
“You are very lucky because you were able to get a degree from this college and because of course, this will not be possible without the all-out support of your parents and guardians. We know that they have sacrificed and labored so much for you to get the degree that you want. They have sacrificed so much and here they are for you to witness your success. Your success is also their success,” Dr. Callagui said.
She also reminded students to also imprint in their minds that they have the right knowledge, attitude, and values to achieve their endeavors in life.
Marlon D. Garcia, Magna Cum Laude and a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy shared that he also comes with different challenges and stories behind his success.
“I believe that each of my fellow graduates here can relate to the struggles that I experienced especially during online classes. Poor internet connection, power interruptions, distractions from the noise in the surroundings, personal struggles but the fact that we are here today proves that we conquered them all and that is definitely something to be proud of,” Garcia said.
“My fellow graduates, as we celebrate this momentous occasion, let us not forget that this day is not just for us. It is also for all the people behind this success who helped us in achieving this milestone,” he added.
Carlo B. Paras (BSA), Mark Edwin M. Dizon (BSEd-English) and Chinie Jane A. Salac (BSEd Math) are also Academic Excellence awardees who also shared their story and acknowledges the people behind their achievements.
Aside from getting good grades and having a degree, Ms. Lora Yusi, the keynote speaker on the 2nd day of the graduation ceremony reminded students that employers also look for good attitude and character.
“It is great to dream big and make a name and work hard but guess what, there is something better than that,” she said.
“If you will just say dream, believe, survive that does not make difference and does not make a big impact on other people’s lives and communities. What we want Holy Cross College including your graduates, is to please Dream, Believe, and Thrive. We challenge you to thrive” Yusi added.
The Chief Education Specialist also reminded students to not only pursue success but pursue significance or add value to others.
Holy Cross College also awarded Campus Journalist of the Year to former Editor-in-Chief and outstanding campus journalist, two students Bachelor of Science in Development Communication students Regine Dela Rosa and Mark Justine Batuhan including Aaron Sombillo from the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Filipino.
Special awards are also given to Outstanding Thesis, Outstanding Capstone Project, Outstanding Feasibility Study, and Loyalty Awardees.
