College studes start class orientation

Holy Cross College is always one step forward in educating and informing students even during the pandemic. Since Monday, July 27, the school with a heart started conducting class orientation of students with their respective teachers and program chairs.

Among the programs which started early in orienting their class are BS Development Communication, BS in Computer Science, BS in Criminology, and College of Business, Accountancy, and Hospitality.

Educators started welcoming freshman students in their respective programs via video conferencing. They also began to give the course overview, objectives, and requirements.

The program chair of BS Computer Science, Arzel Pinpin said the orientation was interactive which was attended by 35 first year and 40 second-year students.

“I’m so glad that I met my students even if it’s just in a virtual orientation. My students are excited about our class opening and most of them are determined to learn even though we are in this kind of situation. I was also motivated to give them a better education because they are expecting a lot from their teachers,” Pinpin said.

“The orientation’s purpose was to test the capability of the teacher on how he/she can execute online classes and for the students to understand certain things that they need to know during the online class discussions,” he added.

This orientation also arranged students’ mode of learning during the crisis. Some students who previously chose modular learning now shifted to online classes due to its accessibility.

“We convinced and arranged some students to have an interactive discussion via online classes. We explained to them that online class will have a time interval for video conference, almost all students depend on their mobile data so we will try to help them connect to the internet,” BS Development Communication program chair, Angelica Simpao said.

The same question also arises in the BS Computer Science class orientation, Pinpin said they also convince students to go online especially if they have smartphones. He also said their department along with other programs is ready to start the classes on Aug 3.

“Yes the school is ready, the teachers are ready and the students are also ready. We have been preparing this for a long time and on August 3 we will know the result of our hard work,” he said.

The College of Business, Accountancy, and Hospitality also met their students via online orientation headed by Dean Yolanda Manalili. After conducting class overview they also met their fellow educators for their first faculty meeting via video conference.
