College achievers acknowledged for hard work, perseverance amid challenges

During the Academic Year 2020 – 2021, education becomes challenging due to the pandemic, but students move towards excellence and prove that no crisis can stop them from learning.

Holy Cross College recognized student achievers who made it to the President’s and Dean’s lister for the second semester last June 4 via Virtual Recognition Day.

President’s lister is awarded to students who acquired grades not lower than 90 and a general weighted average of 92. Dean’s listers are the students who obtained grades not lower than 88 and a general weighted average of 90.

“With your exemplary academic performances, you continue to contribute to the achievement of the vision-mission of the school for academic excellence. To be an excellent student, I am sure there must have been many times when you want to give up or spend time doing other things that may have seemed more attractive than studying, accomplishing the assigned task, or reviewing for an exam. Still, your hard work, sacrifices, and diligence have certainly paid off,” School of Business Accountancy and Hospitality Dean Yolanda Manalili said.

The school with a heart awarded 100 President’s lister and 89 Dean’s lister. The total number of achievers is 10.64 percent of the whole college population of 1, 777 students.

A first-year student from Bachelor of Elementary Education, Jennifer Bulanduz, ranked 1 in the Presidents lister, garnering a general weighted average of 97.03. While Trisha Mae Manaloto, a first-year Bachelor of Science in Psychology student, is the top among Dean’s lister with a general weighted average of 95.89.

HCC President, Atty. Dennis C. Pangan emphasized that students should not be compared based on courses and year for this recognition because the school with a heart acknowledged the different strengths, potentials, and weaknesses of learners.

“In Holy Cross College, we don’t compete with each other; rather, we collaborate, help each other, and work as a team. But I encourage everyone to compete with yourself to challenge your self hat someday, and every day, you are the better version of yourself,” Atty. Pangan said.

The school with a heart also believed that the secrets behind this significant event are not just teachers and employees who rendered their invaluable service by guiding them to the right path but also the parents who support, love, and encourage them in every activity in the school.

“You must show gratitude to your parents for giving their patience and strength, for sending you to school despite the pandemic, for working so hard for your bright future. Thank you’s are also due to your professors who gave their best to deliver necessary learnings, despite the challenges and struggles in our current situation,” School of Engineering, Computer and Library Studies Dean Marvin Mallari said.
