HCC’s First Principal

Antonia H. Dizon, affectionately known as Apung Nena was born on October 21, 1902, the youngest child of Antonio Dizon and Maria Henzon. Collaborating with Msgr. Fernando Lansangan and other civic-minded individuals, she played a pivotal role in establishing Holy Cross Academy, now known as Holy Cross College, in 1945.

Apung Nena embarked on her journey as a teacher and later ascended to the position of Principal, which she held until her retirement. Renowned for her firm guidance, meticulous attention, and unwavering dedication, she shaped countless lives. Viewing teaching not merely as a profession but as a lifelong pursuit of learning, she instilled in her students the belief that each possessed untapped potential, urging them to persevere in making meaningful contributions to society.

A devout Catholic, she seamlessly integrated Christian values into the educational fabric. Under her stewardship, Holy Cross initiated the celebration of the Feast Day of Sto. Niño.

In her retirement, she embraced a serene existence, devoutly participating in church activities. Though unmarried, her legacy endures through the lives she touched and the principles she imparted. Antonia H. Dizon departed this world in September 1987, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, compassion, and unwavering faith.

May her spirit continue to inspire generations to come.
