The Covid-19 pandemic has introduced drastic changes to the world, especially to the education system, as a precaution against the virus. Educational institutions all over the Philippines are forced to shut their doors and use technology to continue teaching and reaching out to students. Holy Cross College is no exemption to this situation.
For over seven decades, students from the Eastern part of Pampanga and beyond have enjoyed the quality education offered by the school. More than that, HCC’s facilities — from the classrooms and libraries to the chapel and laboratories — have played major roles in the education of Crucians.
While face-to-face learning has been put on hold in HCC, the school administrators, faculty members and staff continued to work on the improvement of the facilities. This is also in line with the annual Brigada Eskwela project, an initiative of the Department of Education that aims to bring together school staff, students, parents and other community members to prepare educational institutions for the opening of the new school year.
But under the new normal, there were changes in the implementation of Brigada Eskwela in HCC. This year, only faculty members and staff participated in the weeklong clean-up drive.
HCC President Atty. Pangan said although classes are virtual, the school is still being prepared for the start of the academic year and, eventually, the return of the students. “Because we implement complete transparency in the school, we executed the Brigada Eskwela so that the parents and students can see that Holy Cross College is prepared for the opening of classes this Tuesday (July 27),” shared Atty. Pangan in Kapampangan.
Physical improvements
In his speech this Friday (July 21), Atty. Pangan presented some of the ongoing and future projects for the physical improvement of HCC.
One is the planned upgrade of the parade grounds near the grade school building. Once developed, the area can be used to hold flag-raising ceremonies.
Funds have also already been secured for the repair of the walkway along the junior high school building to prevent flooding, especially during the rainy season.
Apart from the facilities, the HCC Heart Cloud or the school’s e-Learning Management System is undergoing refinement ahead of the first day of classes.
Classes for this academic year start this July 27 (Tuesday). Enrolment period is extended until August 06, 2021.
