Three students of the Holy Cross College are among the top 10 passers of the JA Entrepreneur Skills Pass Certification. They are Marlon Garcia (Top 8), a senior Accountancy student, Anjanette Otina (Top 9), and Andrea Taruc (Top 10), both BS Business Administration students.
Out of 267 examinees from different colleges and universities in the Philippines, only 157 passed.
The students said they were not expecting to make it to the top passers. “Sobrang natuwa po [ako] noong nalaman ko ‘yung balita na nakapasa ako … Actually, hindi ko naman inaakalang mapapasama pa sa top ten. Basta karangalan na makapasa ako. Sobrang blessed na ‘yon. Pero ‘yung makapasok ako sa top ten, beyond blessed pa po,” said Taruc in a radio interview on Radio Libertas program, Barkadahan sa Paaralang May Puso. Garcia shares the same sentiments.
Students from HCC were selected and trained by the SBAHM.
“‘Yung naging preparation namin is ‘yung pagsali namin sa JA Company Program. ‘Yung JA Compay Program po kasi is mag-eestablish kami ng business at i-mamanage namin like an actual business. Dahil po doon, nakakuha kami ng experience sa kung paano patakbuhin ang isang business,” Garcia explained.
The two said they are also thankful for their professors, especially mentors Ms. Antonieta P. Tungcab, BSBA program chair, and Dean Yolanda P. Manalili of the School of Business, Accountancy and Hospitality Management (SBAHM).
The Entrepreneur Skills Pass or ESP is an international qualification that certifies students aged 15 to 19 who have experience in entrepreneurship. These students should be knowledgeable, skilled, and competent to start a business or be successfully employed. JA Worldwide and its local chapter JA Philippines, Inc., aim to teach young students about entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
A certification from the ESP would be a valuable addition to a students’ academic qualifications, especially when they enter the corporate world upon graduation.
